Wow! What a story. $900!! The 80s were great. In 1987 I bought 3 Moogs at once for $220. 2 Rogues and a Multimoog. Great video, Thanks.

I’m so happy for this man. I can imagine being a starry-eyed ELP nerd (far more than I already am or could be) and having “E” be so impressed by your impressions that he actually wants to be buds. Mark Barton is full of lovely stories.

Absolutely MAGIC... in every way... Mark absolutely deserves to be known forever, thus at least his own Wikipedia article!

I was about to kick something for nobody mentioning Tomita, but you took care to bring him up! As much as I love all the work of all those electronica legends mentioned, I’ve never heard sound design so astounding… I mean, maybe I just haven’t heard enough electronic music, but I have yet to hear someone make it quite so beautifully as Isao Tomita.

Regarding the conversation around 15:30, there are definitely people out there now pushing the limits of sound design beyond presets and aping classic textures of the 70's and 80's (which I still love and are relevant!). SOPHIE comes to mind (RIP) as someone who realized the unlimited possibilities of synthesis and is quoted as saying, "“You have the possibility with electronic music to generate any texture, in theory, and any sound, so why would any musician want to limit themselves?’”

Coming from Alex Ball and he was right, interesting story, great video. Thanks guys.

I definitely don't have as many experiences as you but my guts definitely say that digital kills thd good sounds. But there are still some great analog enthusiasts around that keep the fire burning.

I love Mr. Barton's reverence for the Moog. Some folks just don't understand the connection to the instrument and the instrument's connection to the musician. Synthesists are at the very tail end of being among the only musicians still able to thank the pioneers who invented it.

Thanks for continuing to deliver incredible stories, history & content. Mark's stories with Keith are equally important. As previously mentioned, please consider some content around Keith's incredible contribution to synths. I'm happy to contribute to the cause.

Really excited for this. Plantasia was my introduction into the world of synthesizers. My obsession has continued to grow. Thank you for all the work you do. These videos will be viewed and enjoyed by many people for years to come.

Mr Barton is an absolute legend, and I am a very happy owner of much of his work in the digital realm including the Zeroscillator and 900 series modules for Voltage Modular. Nicely done Anthony 👍🏾

Wendy Carlos's website is a treasure trove of knowledge on a variety of subjects! I had a couple of brief conversations with Carlos (about surround sound, how the synth world became so limited before expanding again etc.) a few years ago and I can say my life has been enriched because of it.

At a high school talent contest, we opened the show with an apple ][ playing the national anthem with my Atari 800 singing it, using SAM. Computers used to be so much fun!

When I saw the promo for this I thought “Mark Barton, where do I know that name from?” Then I realized Amari Barton is the DSP guru behind Cherry Audio’s synths. That would be a subject for an equally interesting interview,

Anthony, congratulations on acquiring this classic instrument. Really enjoyed your conversation with Mark and was so pleased you covered folks like Wendy Carlos, ISO Tomita, and Keith Emerson. Like Mark my first exposure to the Moog was SOB with Wendy’s precision programming and Rachel’s amazing production that also found it’s way to both Keith and ISO’s ears starting their efforts to get their instruments along with my own which was a EML101 in the early 70’s. I also spent 5 years working as a salesman (1979-1984) on 48th street in Manhattan selling just about everything made in those times before I switched to a career in business computers and networking till retirement. I frequently follow Alex’s channel where I enjoy his great documentaries and comment on my experiences selling the instruments featured. Thank you so much for your commitment to electronic music history and to your efforts to conserve these amazing instruments as part of your legacy and the recordings you have contributed to. Best wishes, acknowledgement and thanks from a new subscriber.
