They made a friend of mine do something like this and strung her along for over 2 months. In the end she didn't get any job. Do not accept such offers, they are scams.

Companies that do this should be publicly shamed

I have been getting jobs for years through 3 or 4 recruiters. I went on an interview once and they wanted me to do insurance quotes for two hours to "see if I fit". I called the recruiter, like I do every time after, go over the interview. Her reaction "The F did they ask you to do? Seriously?!". She cut ties with that company's offerings.

It would be a disservice to my experience, skill and time to accept free or underpaid position at this stage of my career😊

Yes! I thought I was the only one. I work in quality assurance and we discussed root cause/corrective action. I gave him a solution for one and he said he wanted to send me several more to complete as part of the interview. I asked him the same questions (about payment) and he said no, that my answers would determine whether or not I was hired. I said that I'd already given him one for free and anything further he would have to pay me for. I also informed the employment agency that sent me to the interview.

Happened to me as a translator. They asked me to translate a text as an aptitude test, published my work on their website (without my name, of course), but never hired or paid me.

This kind of thing does happen. And the companies doing it should be exposed on social media, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, etc. Name and shame.

The detachment from reality some companies have. It's one thing when someone offers their services, like a freelancer building their portfolio. But, to assume you can do this to potential job candidates is insane.

Not directly the same issue, but an engineer friend was let go from his small company when they had no more work for him, he was a paid full time employee. When some updates were required on his prior projects they contacted him to do some contract work to resolve those new items, at the same salary he was making as an employee. Wisely, my friend advised that he would require more funds in a contract status as he now had to pay his own Social and Insurance fees, and they eventually agreed. He still does contract work for them from time to time, but now at that higher rate to cover his legal requirements.

Free labor... is a cute way to call it. This is wage theft, and I'm pretty sure a labor lawyer would like to take a look at that company policy

This happened to me 3 months ago. The audacity the companies have to solicit actual labour for an interview. I've searched that company online and others had the same experience. Some of them completed the task and they were ghosted. Stay vigilant and don't let those greedy people exploit you.

"Only employees receive compensation." "Great. As soon as my employment package is approved, I'll get right on it."

I've had a similar thing happen to me. I accepted the project, and then I used it to get a job at a competitor company that i currently work for. I was given a 2, 000 dollar signing bonus because of the work I brought with me and have been the team lead here for over 4 years now.

Something similar happened to my husband, he applied for an auto body technician position. The manager wanted him to come back next week to work an afternoon for free. He told them he couldn't do that. The manager still called him up to come in. Then got upset when my husband told him no. Needless to found a job elsewhere. Companies that do that never turn out to be a good place to be employed.

Thank you for your videos. It helped my husband and I realize that the new company he's at we're trying to get free labor out of him for something he wasn't hired to do. Twice. He stood his ground and things are going much better.

I had this happen over the course of a number of weeks. A technical IT interview. I was given a set of requirements and asked to present a solution. I did and there followed a new set of requirements. This was repeated multiple times and I realised they were just getting me to do the work unpaid. I forced the issue and asked outright did they have any intention of giving me the job? They said yes, and made a formal offer. I waited a week. Then turned it down.

That was a great response. Should you need my services as a paid consultant, I will forward a quote. Obviously if your current employees cant figure out the problem, why would I figure it out for you and not get paid😂😂😂

That's a new one on me. I love how you very professionally told them where they could shove that. You did an excellent job there.

Happened to me as a copywriter with (at the time) a decade of experience. A week’s worth of unpaid work for a shot at what turned out to be an entry level position, despite what the posting had described. I declined.
