Zahid Hussain is an award-winning journalist and writer. He is a correspondent for The Times of London and The Wall Street Journal. He also has covered Pakistan and Afghanistan for several other international publications, including Newsweek, the Associated Press and The Economist.

Hussain has authored two books: Frontline Pakistan: The struggle with militant Islam (2007) and The scorpion’s Tail: The relentless rise of Islamic militants in Pakistan (2010). The books have won widespread acclaim as seminal texts on the subject.

The uprising in 1989 in Kashmir was not indigenous. Lt General Asad Durani, ex-ISI chief was better informed on the subject. He has confessed during his interview with Mehdi Hasan of Al-Jazira, that the uprising in Kashmir was the biggest achievement of the ISI. Even as a leftist contributor in the Pakistani space, I find it astonishing that you are unable to unequivocally condemn how the encouragement of fundamentalist Islam and terrorism by Pakistan has destroyed the Kashmiri youth and the possibility of peace with India. It was a stupid foreign policy and even now the civilian leaders refuse to acknowledge it, asking for proof and such. You can find the records of ISI directing the Mumbai attacks.
