Thats why I go for black dress shirts that have a bit of texture or a pattern that is also another shade of black. It is subtle but it avoids the waiter look and breaks up the solid black to make it look more interesting.

Cream/ash pants, black dress shirt with sleeves rolled up. If you have the forearms and the chest, it works. Trust me. A couple necklaces and a watch and you’re golden, or, well, black. Works wonders.
