Hydroponics: 5 things I wish I knew before I started

It is the end of the season and I wanted to do a wrap up video of my first attempt at hydroponic tomatoes. First time growing, you learn a lot — everything from blossom end rot, to broken vines, to amazing tasting tomatoes. The title is only sort of click-baity :) These things really did surprise me.

I used:

MASTERBLEND 4-18-38 Complete Combo Kit Fertilizer Bulk (5 Pound Kit):

And it worked great.

This 120GPH Submersible Water pump.

It was cheap and worked most of the summer. The second one I bought worked the rest of the summer and is still going a year later indoors.

The buckets I got locally.

The hose black 1/2" ID tubing. If you use the pump above, you need 1/2" ID tubing

Good luck!

The way the trees sway when you said "stare at a distance" it's like perfectly choreographed..

Mate, I subscribed because of your "stare". I don't trust people with wandering eyes, you're one of the more trustworthy uploaders I've seen on YT.

Cheers for your videos, much appreciated.

I really enjoy these no-bullshit videos. Thanks for taking your time to dish 'em out.

dont listen to those people who say not to look at the camera. Dont orchestrate what you do, the more that people seem like theyre rehearsing the more it seems like i can only pay attention to how they're presenting than what they're presenting.

Haha it felt a little awkward but when you brought it up the staring got funny!

Nice summary of hydro growing for the season. I'll bet it's helpful to folks! All the best.

Great advice. I grew 2 Roma maters on my deck in DWC. Had a Horn worm attack that devistated one plant. I did get some fruit from it. And the other plant gave several. Trying a Roma and a Cherry tomato in basement now. Yes they are drinking lots of solution! Wohoo!

haha! just discovered your channel. I love the comedy mixed in with your videos (and I am glad to see you are still making videos). I am looking to start an indoor garden very soon. I should setup lettuce, but I want to try tomatoes too.

I couldn't tell what medium you used for your plants. You really should explain the medium being used because that impacts some factors in hydroponic growing.

Yes, off into the distance. It also looks more intrepid.

your "sauce tomatoes" look like San Marzanos, which are, in my experience, very susceptible to blossom end rot.

Nutrient uptake is directly related to ph. If the ph isn't right the nutrients become locked out. Cal-Mag is one of those that can be locked out in ph above 5.7. I find a ph of 5.4-5.6 works best with Cal-mag issues...

Thanks for the info man, watched a bunch of your video's good things to note! also dude, moisturise your hands, Look like they're starting to crack!

The plants didn’t have the right uptake for the plants to take in the macronutrients. I use mammoth P and cal mag to correct these deficiencies.

I can see why someone would feel nervous. I feel like you're about to lecture me on the errors of my way.
