The people who say he didn't show emotion have never experienced shock or dissociation, that man broke.

He’s a solider. He’s use to seeing dead bodies but he’s trained to keep his emotions back until after the battle

The people who say he didn’t show emotion clearly didn’t hear his voice breaking when Neteyam said he wanted to go home. You could hear in Jake’s voice a major crack. He was showing emotion, but he was worried for his daughters and had to stay strong for Neytiri.

He didn't show emotion but was dying inside. He might be strict to his sons but deeply loves them alot. He couldn't face what was happening he was NUMB.

Jake is a good dad. He's just strict, because he has to be for saftey. Parents aren't perfect, we cant expect them to be experts, they're learning like we are. He shows his emotions and his care differently, that doesn't mean he doesn't love them. 💙

If you think he didn't show emotion, it's called being in shock and disassociation. He was completely broken in that moment.

Some people I guess forgot that Jake is an ex-marine. He must have seen many deaths and grown used to seeing people die. He was in shock, and when he came out of if he came back to the reality that he lost his first son.

He did show emotion in the best way he could. He was trying to be strong for his family and dealing with his grief.

It's heartbreaking. Jake tried so hard to protect his family, to shield his children from witnessing the horror of war and also losing their siblings, because he's lost so much of his people. First his twin brother Tom, then his friends Grace and Trudy, uncounted allies and brothers in And now Neteyam. His oldest son.

If you look really close you can see that Jake's first reaction to Neteyam's death was slightly shaking him, as if he wanted to wake him up. He's probably gonna think he failed Neteyam - that he failed to protect him and the rest of his family. I can't even imagine the scale of pain he felt in this scene. Everyone seems to be focusing on Neytiri here - of course mother's love is unbreakable, but the father's.... It's a diffrent kind of love, but still very deep and strong. Jake loves all his children - each in a diffrent way, but he still cares. He cares about them more than himself.

He was just stunned and shocked that his son died, he just couldn’t believe the fact that Neteyam died

There’s another scene that has been cut out, when Neytiri and Jake are washing Neteyam’s body. Jake completely breaks down while Neytiri is emotionally numb. They just answer the shock in their own time, in their own way.

Y’all really tripping bc I wrote Jack instead of Jake, fixed it now

I thought of Jake's supposed lack of emotion as a mix of disbelief, feeling responsible for his son's death, and him losing it and going "I'm going to k*** every single one of them" inside.

In this scene you get two polar opposites. Neytiri, who breaks down… and Jake, who try’s to hold himself together. From what we’ve seen in the movies, Jake is more likely to go numb then her. Could be something from being in the military, but at the end of the day when Lo’ak finds him, he’s ready to give up. Saying that Neytiri’s pain is greater, or that she’s been through “more” is completely false. They just process things differently. Neytiri lost a sibling, so did Jake. Neytiri lost a son, so did Jake. Neytiri lost her home, so did Jake. The list goes on.
Yes, I know Neytiri lost her farther too but we have no info, that I know of, on Jake’s parents. Even if they are alive, he won’t see them again. So… stop hating on the dude.

he actually didn't have time to react before Quaritch told him they had their daughters💔 but luckily Eywa blessed him with a meeting with Neteyam when he could express his emotions🥺🫶🏻

Its so kind that tsireya actually cared even though she wasn't in the Sully family, just shows how much she cares about them❤

I don’t get why everyone is hating on him bc of this scene. Everyone shows pain in different ways and some ppl just do nothing in that moment. He is a good father and he did show his emotions clearly

The ones who are quiet, silent and numb in someone's death are only the ones who are always blamed for being emotion less and worse 😢whole in reality they are the ones who are the most terrible state, trying to process what's going on, not able to accept the fact that the one in front of them has left them *FOREVER*

Have u felt the sadness till the point u cant cry anymore n just felt emptiness? I think thats how jake was. Beside, he had to stay strong coz neytiri lost it.

He was subconsciously in denial. He called Neteyam's name when Lo'ak carried him back to the surface while they were still in the ship underwater. He thought Lo'ak was Neteyam. He hasn't fully processed that Neteyam was already gone. Plus during this scene, he was concentrated on Neytiri, trying to hold her back from the emotional pain and sorrow as she was consumed by grief.
