Do not sign this form emergency care is already available by law .

An unbiased news report would have read what was in the waiver. Do not sign it until you read it in its entirety, not just an abbreviated version.

Retired school nurse here. This news segment doesn’t provide enough information. What prompted this legislation? Does this mean no bandaids or other minor first aid? Parents send kids to school a lot! So a nurse can’t take a temperature or look at a sore throat? Many questions, no answers.

Never sign a blanket medical waiver, there isn't any medical care your child needs at school that's not an emergency

So those are the choices? Sign it and we do whatever we want, or don't sign it and we do nothing? Sounds like they want permission to do something behind parents' backs. I can see why some parents don't want to sign it. I wouldn't. They can call the parent or 911.

Given the new rules on self identification being withheld from parents, I would NEVER sign such a waiver.

Don't listen to these nurses don't sign anything, if it's actually serious they have to call paramedics anyway

A new scare tactic to allow them to do whatever they want without parents’ knowledge.

Blanket waiver absolves the state of everything. That's lawyers talking

Just go ahead and sign a bunch of blank checks and permission forms while you're at it! WTH???!!!

Not your kids. Get over it. Public school kids have gotten along fine without it for well over 100 years

You want a school nurse treating your child without your knowledge? If you sign the form who knows what they'll do. If it's an emergency they should send them to the hospital, otherwise call the parents and let them decide what to do. Also, why does this video abruptly cut off instead of ending?

I work as a substitute school nurse in another state, I would absolutely quit this job if my state passed such a law. When I am working with a student, I can apply a bandaid or assess the student and decide if they need to go home sick, I cannot administer any medication without a doctor’s order and the parents specific consent, this includes even Tylenol. It can include cough drops if you want to be extra careful. I don’t know what scope school nurses had in Tennessee but if they’re too scared to let a registered nurse decide if your child is healthy enough to attend school I have to wonder what they think a school nurses job even is.

What’s the matter about having to call a parent to get consent when the child winds up at nurse’s office for non-emergency care?!? Why should I be force to waiver parental rights to government for my child to be cared for?

Emergencies are clear cut - what is the real purpose behind wanting these waivers signed?

So… what exactly what is that they’re wanting to treat, if there’s an exemption for emergencies? And if it’s not an emergency that needs to be addressed before dismissal, can’t they call a parent to explain and provide consent?!? That how it was when I was young… Other than an emergency like like breaking an ankle or getting a cut, the nurse would call one of parents, usually my dad who was more available due to his occupation and they’d go from there… Why can’t it be this way?!? Why do they fear transparency so much?!? 🤔🤔🤔

It says "except in emergencies." They are allowed to treat the child if it is an emergency. So in case they fall or get cut, etc., they can treat them without fear of losing their license. I see no problem with this.
