The wild world of lawyers' TV ads

"Injured?" If you've turned on a TV in the past four decades, you've seen appeals from attorneys claiming that they will fight for YOU. But it was once a crime for lawyers to hawk their services. How did commercials selling legal advice become legal – and so pervasive? Correspondent Conor Knighton reports on the rise of lawyer ads, some of which may be judged as simply bonkers.

Most of these lawyers are the "bottom of the barrel" don't More trouble than they are worth. Call the State Bar Association where you live and get attorney referrals that way. The State Bar Association is an excellent repository for reputable lawyers who know what they are doing. They are invaluable!

I'm from Buffalo. So, for years, we were living through the local Cellino and Barnes commercials. They had a local number for a long time. Personally, nowadays, I like The Barnes Firm commercials.

They outlawed cigarette commercials and replaced them with drug commercials. We have commercials selling us drugs followed by commercials with lawyers wanting us to hire them to sue the drug company that advertised a minute before they did. Oh, and you can't hire a lawyer anymore unless their cut is worth it to them.

They bait folks with million dollar settlements when most auto insurance policies are only 25K to 50K, and insurance companies will even fight to pay that much!

In my country, this would be considered enough grounds for disbarment as the Integrated Bar explicitly mentioned in three provisions of its Code of Professional Responsibility that soliciting legal business, doing it using mass media, and using fraudulent claims to advertise said legal services, are strictly prohibited. And our entire legal and judicial system is modeled mostly after the US system so it is a fair indictment how crazy that system is to my country enough to make it illegal...

20 years ago I got popped in Austin Texas on not so well-known law (for a misdemeanor). *Lawyers by the 100s sent a POST CARD telling me the Avg Cost of expense to get my troubles settled.* _?what does that word mean, :settled:?_ *IT MEANT JUSTICE is JUST A BRIBE.* _And if you can't afford the cost of a Bribe, you might go to Jail for a LONG TIME._
