For some reason it is not allowing me to install ffmpeg. This is the error it gives me,
"zsh: command not found: brew"

Thank you! I did whoever I couldn't to open m4a files. I convert then to AIFF with MediaHuman Audio Converter and then I could open them.

did anybody get "brew: command not found"?

You can add the note that xcode command line tools must be installed before your instructions will succeed. If they are not, you'll get a screen full of errors but also instructions on how to install them: "xcode-select --install". If you already have lame installed, there will probably be a conflict between what brew wants to install and what's already there. Brew is very nice in that it gives instructions on how to fix it, including a way to "dry run" to see what it would do prior to committing to it.
