A worn steering wheel is definitely a sign the car has had a hard life. You are definitely right, looked at one today steering wheel was worn but drove nice. The engine now was caked in oil, like it was everywhere even the air box. I walked away

Did you really just refer to the rear tire wear to be a common problem on the car? What rear wheel drive car would that not be a common problem on? Technically tire wear is a common problem on any car. That is not car specific.

Do you have any advice on a clunk/gear jump issue on initial start up after the car has been parked for a couple hours/overnight? What I've experienced is that it feels like the car is jumping out of a gear. When I searched the forums I found some people saying that it is the fluid that has drained from the trans system and needs to be pumped back in which causes the initial clunk. Others say the trans ecu needs to be reset.

do you recommend purchasing an 04 545i that was only driven a few months a year, well kept (garaged) at 96, 000miles? do you think it will still give me a lot of problems even though it was well taken care of by an older couple? thanks in advance.
