I tell my youngest, this is what is for dinner. My youngest tried to claim I was starving her one night because I refused to make her a second dinner as she didn't want to eat what I made. I said either eat it or don't as it is your choice. Only you are starving yourself as there is food here ready for you to eat.

Children have to be forced to eat healthy or they would literally live off of junk.

My mom NEVER did this. We ate what was cooked or we didn’t eat. I raised my kids the same way.
This is much more common today unfortunately.

My mom: "If you're not hungry for what I'm feeding you, you're not hungry. Like, y'know there's kids all over the world starving, ima send you to Africa to see how it is-"

Her continuing a rant while I can't eat the food she's feeding me or im going to throw it up.

Am British. That’s not realistic ‘cause the British kid wouldn’t bother asking. Mum’s attitude is pretty spot-on.

I grew up with a very sensible in between. If chicken stirfry was being cooked, so plain chicken, rice, and veg would be left out for me to eat with a different (or no) condiment on them than the stirfry. If something that I truly couldn't stand (like sea food) was cooked, I was told to make myself either a plate of leftovers or something like a sandwich. This started when I was around seven years old, and perfectly capable of making myself a pb&j with a side of raw baby carrots. It really helped because I had (and still have) legitimate issues with food tastes and textures (I'm a super taster and have sensory sensitivities), and this approach to food growing up meant that my relationship with food as an adult isn't wildly messed up.

in my house, if we didn't like what was served, we were on our own. we didn't have to eat it if we didn't like it, but we then had to cook/prepare our own food and clean up when we finished. it's why I learned to cook so quickly
