Composite vs Amalgam

I remember getting a metal almagam and going to school and everyone thought I was cool cuz I had a "metal tooth"

My dentist stated that amalgams are best suited for back molars, and barely noticeable, except for up-close. Though composites (resins) are often regularly used for cosmetics sake. As resins only last maybe 3-5 years if you're not a "grinder" which applies to most adults in sleep habits.

Also with amalgam fillings, the dentist has to make a bigger hole unlike the composite filling. Composite sticks to your teeth right away.

all my amalgams fell apart after 3-4 years. they look bad, they last short, they cause bad breath and they are poisonous. My composites on the other hand, have almost last 10 years by now.

I replaced an amalgam almost every year with different dentists until I went to a very expensive one and they told me that composites are the new thing and way better, been with the same filling for almost 10 years

My Molars are filled eith amalgam and they last really long, I'd say about 15 years now. The composite that I have only lasted for few months to a year

Im a dentist and i have seen amalgams easily last upto 40 years, composites on the other hand usually last almost 5 to 6 years

to all those who say amalgam lasts for ever while composite decays after a few years: i've never got amalgam and i've got a lot of fillings, but only one has ever broken in like 15 years so this sounds preety ok with me, considering i am not poisoning myself and i am not running the risk of splitting my teeth cause of to much bite force.

And now they knkw about Mercury toxity and avoid using these except for the old dentiats that still forceably advices u to have them
