Sissel - Adagio (2 versions)

There are two performances of "Adagio" by Sissel on this video.

The first was in 2006 - Sweden, SVT1, "Sissel Kyrkjebø i Dalhalla", from the "Into Paradise" Concert. The second was also in 2006 at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.

To MY ear and eye (at least), Sissel rises to new heights of excellence at Gothenburg, where she performed both Adagio and another song that she composed the lyrics for (The Old Castle) - far surpassing her performance at Dalhalla. The charisma of this performance - the emotional, physical and vocal presentation - set a new standard of excellence, even for Sissel herself !! Her stage power and presence are nothing less than mesmerizing. As Sissel appears on stage and begins to sing, you are captivated by her spiritual power. You know that here isn't just another "singer/performer/entertainer" - but that you are honored to be in the presence of TRUE Greatness (a Great Soul). !!

Dalhalla is an amphitheater located in a former limestone quarry, and is used as a summer music venue. It is located 7 km north of Lake Siljan and the town of Rättvik in Dalecarlia in central Sweden.

The quarry is 60 meters deep, 400 meters long and 175 meters wide. The open air theater was opened in 1995 and currently has 4000 seats. The acoustical qualities are comparable to the best outdoor stages in Europe.

Dalhalla presents 20-30 events each summer, from June to the beginning of September with a combination of opera, choral works, and jazz and popular concerts making up the balance of the program.

As I shared with someone recently who was complaining that, in their opinion, to be objective, Sissel's talent should be considered SOLELY in terms of the quality of her voice and not tied to her appearance or person. I told them that, in MY mind and that of tens-of-thousands of her ardent admirers, her Gift and Talent encompasses her WHOLE person and not just her voice in isolation !!

She is like a perfect diamond, each facet sparkling with the gleam of her various attributes - her Voice, her Inner Beauty, her Outer beauty, her Smile, her Eyes, her Charisma. One facet cannot be separated from another. They ALL sparkle together to radiate the beauty of the precious gem. Thus it is with HER - when God gifted mankind with her Talent, it wasn't JUST her Voice that He gave, but rather the ENTIRE being known as "Sissel" !!

A comment someone left on YouTube says it VERY well. This person stated that, "they had heard many of Sissel's CD/DVD's, but there was NO comparison to finally seeing and hearing her live on stage."

God sent angles to proclaim the Good Tidings among men - and SURELY one of them was named Sissel. What a magnificent voice and a heavenly, beautiful and gracious woman !!!! I hear the sound of heaven whenever she sings.
