Taria, I DID IT! Yesterday after watching this I went outside to do some sketching. It's a 10 minute walk for me to Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. I knew it was chock full of interesting structures (masoleums) and lovely landscaping. It was just a small sketch book and pencils, but I'm so glad I finally got out there! I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for the ideas and encouragement! Also, it was good to see the work of your sketchy comrades.

Thank you Taria I like your channel and enjoy your work this one was great but special thanks for including the throwdown at the end it's my favourite bit of urban sketching with a group seeing what everyone else has done.

I found a back board from a shattered cheap IKEA picture frame and it was perfect for sketching. So this is a great option if you can’t find a shop selling just the board.

Cemetery sketching can be a lot of fun and one can often learn some history at the same time. Many cemeteries have special areas for well known individuals, families, or disasters. The markers can have their own special artistic beauty as well. I started doing cemetery sketching back in the late 1960’s as part of a school final project. I was amazed as to what I learned. There are tombstones with lambs (children), willow trees (ladies, normally widows or spinsters in that particular area), the Gates to Heaven (can be most anyone), and sunsets (again for most anyone). Watch the death dates and one can plot the rise and fall of trends as to types, stone shapes, etc. Add to all that the foliage, flowers, sculptures, etc. and one can have great sketches and paintings. Love your channel and your work. Keep up the presentations. We love them.

This is awesome! I’m in central Ohio and there are little historic cemeteries everywhere.

Oh I've been wanting to do this and have been trying to work up the nerve. I have a cemetery near by that has an older section with some statues and interesting tombstones. I was just thinking about it when I came across your video. I guess I wasn't sure if I would be allowed to sit and sketch in the cemetery. I thought it would be an interesting subject with the fall leaves and all. Beautiful work, I like how you painted it across both pages in your sketch book.

Thank you Taria for all your hints and tips, I recently joined a local urban sketching group and they're a really friendly bunch, it's so nice to get out and sketch with like minded people and eat cake of course 😁

Lovely sketch! I haven’t thought about drawing a whole scene in a graveyard. I tried once and the place felt resentful of me trying to draw it. 😅
