English - The V/Line Centrol Train Control Gods looked favourably on local train enthusiasts providing a very rare weekday daylight freight train run along the Ballarat line through Bacchus Marsh. Generally all freights to and from Ballarat run via Geelong during daylight hours especially on a weekday.

Weekday daylight freight trains along the Ballarat Line are extremely rare due to the frequency of V/Line passenger services and limited crossing loops which leave very few paths for anything else.

Here is Pacific National 9102 with the containers from Manangatang in Victoria's North West with locomotives G536, X43 and G531 at it runs through Bacchus Marsh and powers up the grade towards Melbourne.

Any idea what freight was being transported.Manangatang is a mainly wheat area, but no wheat trucks on train.

It certainly makes a nice change from the parade of glorified railmotors we normally get. V/locities might have helped revive passenger rail in this state, but they're just so boring after a while. They're making quite a good pace up the 1-in-48 (?) out of Bacchus Marsh; I imagine this is what the old Jets used to be like, before the Melbourne—Adelaide goods got redirected along the standard gauge line.

There really ought to be far more freight on the rails, and while we're at it let's get rid of the silly 80 km/h speed restrictions for them, fix up the tracks properly from the ground up, replace TPWS with ETCS because it's far more versatile, and give rail a fighting chance against the road lobby. I'd go so far as to institute an "anti-road lobby" fully prepared (and funded) to totally shaft road transport like the road lobby did to railways, but that's even more unrealistic than everything else on my wish list.
