Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained, and as voted for by everyone in the latest poll, today we’ll be exploring End of Days, the 1999 supernatural horror film directed by Peter Hyams.

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gabriel Byrne, Robin Tunney, CCH Pounder and Kevin Pollak, it follows former cop turned security expert Jericho Cane who is pulled into an ancient religious conflict between good and evil.

Interestingly enough, I had only learned this film existed a few days ago. I find it kind of humorous that in some ways, this film resembles the first Terminator film. A woman destined to spawn a child that will determine the fate of the world being protected by a troubled but determined fighter as they are chased across an urban landscape by a practically invulnerable entity disguised as a human being, but eventually shows its true form after it’s disguise is destroyed, leading to the fighter sacrificing himself in an effort to protect said woman.

This movie had some very funny moments and some very serious moments as well.
Critics gave this movie negative reviews, but it was a box office success, making $230 million dollars against a $90-100 million dollar budget.
The special makeup effects were done by Oscar Winning VFX artist Stan Winston as well as KNB FX.

Arnold's special guest appearance on Smackdown prior to the movie's opening weekend was just as entertaining as the movie. My friends and I had to sneak in to the movie since we were still too young to purchase Rated R tickets. I'm almost positive I still have my ticket stub from the night we went to see it, since I somehow managed to save my tickets to almost every single movie I ever saw in theaters. Good times.

15:04, in an alternative ending, it shows that Jericho gets resurrected after impaling himself, having redeemed his faith with God, as both he and Christine walk out of the church. The ending is very hard to find as it hasn't been released in any DVD or Blu Ray format
It's available in the novelization of the movie.

7:56, the late great Rod Steiger is in this movie, which makes it even more impressive as he always plays powerful characters in movies like The Illustrated Man, the racist sheriff with a heart of gold In The Heat Of The Night, a mob boss in The Specialist and a loud, paranoid, obnoxious General in Mars Attacks
End Of Days was his last film as an actor until his death in 2002.

As a kid, I found the movie scary.
As a teen, I felt the movie was shit.

I always consider this movie as THE FINAL Arnold movie. Meaning the movie that closed his fantastic action filmography that started with CONAN in early 80s. After this, Arnold's movies weren't the same and he then went into politics. That's not to say that End of Days is perfect, far from it, but it has the one liners, and the cheese we had come to expect from Arnold, as well as all the wild action that made him popular. End of the Days is an underrated classic that deserves the love and cult following of films like Commando, Predator, and Total Recall.
