this was my suggestion on patreon, thanks so much for reacting to it! Glad you guys liked it, it seemed right up your alley. Next on your Tarja journey should definitely be "The Siren" - ideally from Lowlands 2005, but End of an Era is good too. OR go for a classic Nightwish ballad with "Swanheart" live from their From Wishes to Eternity concert.

And you guys are right! The reason you're not seeing smartphones is because this was 2005.

Tarja (pronounced Tar-e-yah, with a y sound instead of a j) was fired from the band right after this concert. There was a lot of drama behind the scenes, a lot of he said, she said, and the way the guys handled her dismissal was uhhhh not great, to put it very lightly. What it really came down to, it seems, was that they were very much in different places in their lives at the time and wanted different things and couldn't find a compromise. Obviously, it goes a lot deeper and there's a lot that went into it but at this point in time it kind of doesn't matter. Tarja has gone on to have a great solo career, Nightwish moved on with Anette, and then Floor joined in 2013. Floor and Tarja have been friends since Tarja was still in Nightwish, so nearly 20 years. As far as I know they've never done a full show together, but there are some videos of a performance they did of "Over The Hills and Far Away" a few years ago. It's not great quality but it's fun seeing them together.

Nighwish with Tarja helped shape symphonic metal into what it is now. Their last album with Floor was more folk metal, I guess? Interestingly, a glance at your reactions to Floor videos shows me that of those songs, only two were originally for Floor. Two were originally Anette songs, and two were Tarja ("Romanticide" and "Ghost Love Score"). So with that in mind, it can sometimes be a bit hard for new fans to get a full grasp on where the band is actually at now since Floor does so many of the old songs mixed in, but once you get more familiar with the Tarja era music (not just her vocals but how it was written and composed) it becomes a bit more obvious even when Floor sings them that they were originally from that era. The music overall just has a very different feel.

SIDE NOTE but I know you'll probably get requests for "Wishmaster, " because it's a classic and I get it, but if you guys do that song please for the love of all that is holy do the From Wishes to Eternity live. Everyone does the End of an Era version and it easily the weakest of Tarja's live performances of that song. She was very ill for that show and while it doesn't really make a difference for most of the concert (unless you're already very familiar with her voice, then it's obvious) but "Wishmaster" is one of the songs were it's clear she's not operating at 100% because it's a much faster song.

You can check out Nightwish with Tarja, Beauty of the Beast, The Siren, Dead Boy's Poem, 10th Man Down, and Tarja solo after Nightwish doing Muse cover of Supremacy

Nightwish always makes me feel like I should be riding around on a horse conquering new territories. Like Xena, warrior princess or something 😊😆

I agree about watching a show through your phone. I think it takes away from the experience when you’re more worried about getting good footage. People can’t just be in the moment and enjoy stuff anymore without filming it 😩

There actually is a third singer Annette Olsen who was the main vocalist for 2 nightwish albums between Tarja and Floor. She doesn't have the same voice but still has a great voice it's a tad more poppy but there are good songs on those albums aswell.

Slaying The Dreamer from this same concert is amazing as well

NW definitely had more power metal influence when they were younger. So yes, part of Tarja's era was more power metal like. I miss that sometimes nowadays.
You should check out their From Wishes to Eternity concert to see that power and rawness. 😄

Hey guys great reaction! My pick from this same concert would be "Wishmaster" Tarja kills it on vocals and Emppu's guitar playing is awesome! Btw the J in her name is pronounced as a Y. Nightwish ALWAYS kicks ass!

Please react to Slaying the dreamer from the same end of an era concert, and Tarja solo in Woodstock 2016 performing Supremacy (Muse cover). She is amazing. A classically trained lyrical soprano, one of the founders of Nightwish and the very reason there is Nightwish as we know it. She is what made this band stand out from the rest, to me. Absolutely fantastic vocalist.

To explain why Nightwish lasted this long, you only need to hear Sleeping Sun or Siren (with Tarya). Those are surreal experience.

Their 2nd and 3rd CD's are just pure power metal, Tuomas was very influenced at that time by Stratovarius and it shows on the songs. If you want to check some songs from these albums watch any song from "From Wishes to Eternity" DVD, every song is a masterpiece. "Pharaoh sails to Orion" and "Fantasmic" are 2 great power metal songs you can check :)
LP, 4th and 5th CD are symphonic metal.

There was an international cross country skiing sprint in the Helsinki Olympic Stadium today. It was live on TV and Tarja sang a song there, no band, so obviously with a backing track. As far as I know Tarja lives in Spain, so I was a little surprised.
She had an all black leather outfit, she looked good, very lively performance. Steve and Seagulls performed a couple of songs. Last autumn Tarja visited The Seagulls nest. They performed a couple of songs together. The video is on Steve and Seagulls channel.

Also The Pharao Sails to Orion from the Wishes to Eternity concert, definitely power metal era 🧡
