Happy Pride Month! Not that I don't regularly read queer books, but it feels especially important during June - like mentioned, please leave your favourite underrated book in the comments. There's a handful of books that get all the attention, but everyone in the community deserves some love!🌈

AN FYI that I made a mistake, Casey McQuiston is nonbinary and uses they/them, not she/her!

OK so a year later I think it's interesting to look back at this and see that we have expanded slightly the standard mainstream queer book recs. We still have those 3 that were talked about in the beginning but we've also added One Last Stop by Casey Mcquiston, Boyfriend Material (and by extension Husband Material) by Alexis Hall, and Heartstopper by Alice Oseman.

EDIT: SOMEHOW forgot to say: Happy Pride!!

The Bone Shard Daughter has been on my TRB shelf/record player for a few months (thanks to earlier praise from you!), and apparently I should be starting it next. I picked up Seven Devils some time last year all thanks to you and found it to be a good fun read! Black Sun was also really enjoyable, and I *did not know* that the sequel had apparently just released so thanks for that heads up XD

Also, glad to see the mix of YA/Adult recommendations! This may or may not be the result of me apparently dragging your demographics upward... I regret nothing!

Some of my favourite underrated queer novels that I sadly hardly anyone see talk about:
All the bad apples - Moïra Fowley-Doyle
summer of salt - Katrina Leno
This is what it feels like - Barrow
the stars and the Blackness between them - Junauda Petrus
The Gloaming - Kirsty Logan
The Weight of the Stars - K Ancrum
Like a Love Story -
last true poets of the sea - Julia Drake
Pulp - Robin Talley
Foolish Hearts - Emma Mills
how to make a wish - Ashley Herring Blake

love this video! definitely adding Ramona Blue to my tbr. I also read The City Beautiful by Aiden Polydoros (?) earlier this year and i havent really seen anyone talk about it ... like anywhere?? lmao but it gives a little cemetery boy vibes but set in 1800s chicago/world fair following two Jewish boys and like a possession plotline -- super loved it

"The Midnight Girls" is based on Polish folklore, not Russian. There are different Slavic countries than Russia.

Black Sun is amazing! One of my favorites! Another great one is The Disasters, it is a YA sci-fi and SO much freaking fun, so underhyped too!

This list had so many of my favorites! Looking forward to your other videos this month! The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta is a book I don't see getting as much love as it should and is really good quick read

props on finding 10 that i've actually never heard anyone talk about! granted most of them are not really my genre, but still it's nice to see how much variety there is to choose from these days, instead of focussing on the same 5 books that are popular on tiktok. i made a similar video myself if you're interested in my recs 😎

Love the Bone Shard Daughter series, good mention. Also appreciated your points about queer literature not being just about things sexual, etc. I also do not like some books who seem to have just included a queer character, just so they can say that they were diverse, etc. Characters/books should be true to that given story...whether heterosexual, homosexual, whatever ethnic backgrounds, etc. Whatever, and whomever a given story is about...it should be GENUINE.

I, myself, am a heterosexual male, and somewhat older than the majority of your viewers, but appreciate a genuine story. As for the theme of this post, and month, I think The Gilded Wolves trilogy, is a wonderful series that has multi-layered, complete queer characters, whom you really grow to sincerely care for...they are flesh, and whole.

Personally, I'm completely obsessed with "The Many Half-Lived Lives of Sam Sylvester" It really blew me away when I read it last year, and I can't stop thinking about it!!! Need more people to read it and talk about it ❤‍🔥
