Alan Sorcher, Assistant Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's Office of Investor Education and Advocacy, will discuss the basics of investing and ways to avoid being scammed. The talk will also focus on what it is like working for the Federal Government, including the SEC, as well as the role of the SEC in overseeing the U.S. securities markets.

Speaker Bio:
Alan E. Sorcher assists the SEC in educating investors on fraud and other topics related to investing in securities. Earlier in his career, Alan was a Branch Chief in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, a Senior Advisor at Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and Senior Counsel at the Federal Reserve Board.  Alan also spent almost ten years as a Managing Director and Associate General Counsel at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. Alan holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from the Boston University School of Law.
