Solid explanation, 10/10 would recommend. Also, watching it made me wish my synth had independent volume control over the components of the RM output.

Thanks friendly sound designing robot! Great explanation, and thanks for using Osc and Spect. Not enough sound design tutorials use these key tools.

Did we need to talk in monotone? Would’ve been more interesting with ring Modulation

for a sec I thought Steven Hawking's talking :D

This is basically a balanced modulator similar to producing a DSB (double sideband) with no carrier signal as used in a SSB (single sideband) transmission where the upper or lower sideband is filtered out.

So it was outputting a compound Major 3rd ?

Ok so after trying to debunk this shady mystery about ring mod, finally a video has given some insight about the fact that there actually is a dispute regarding multiplication and or addition, however after opening the door a bit you have closed it again. I am sorry but how can you say "it does both" and then not explain how you obtain the difference number? So I am assuming that the adding the two together produces the sum frequency, seems quite logical, but multiplying them does not create the difference, nor does dividing them, so this is either wrong or misworded once again

Audio Example starts at 0:53.
Ring mod does'nt multiply the volume but the signal itself.

I double checked the video and it doesn't say it multiplies the volume. "it multiplies the two signals together thus creating frequencies that are the some and difference of the frequencies present in both signals"

I'm trying to make the sound of the feedback guitar from the original "Scooby dooby doo where are you' intro when the bats are flying by... I thought ring modulation might help me..

There's no related video showing. Either it does not exist or YouTube's algorithm does not support the education content of this channel.

What app is that you're using for the demo? Looks cool.

Hey great video. I don't understand why this is a type of "amplitude modulation", for what i've read and what i see here only the frequency of the carrier is modulated not the amplitude. I guess i'm missing something?

Thank you! And I welcome any correction if you find one. So don't hesitate if you see a mistake in the future.

i understand how the output is the combined difference and sum of the two signals but whats multiplied and how?
