The alarming expansion of the jihadist group the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) has prompted regional and international powerbrokers with vested security and economic interests in the broader Middle East to reassess their regional strategies. The United States and key Gulf states on one side, and Iran on the other, share an interest in the defeat, or at least containment, of ISIS and the overall stability of Iraq. Could the rise of ISIS forge an uneasy coalition among such strange bedfellows?
Please join the Atlantic Council for a discussion of the geo-strategic implications of the rise of ISIS on Monday, July 21, 2014 from 10:00am to 11.30am, and please join the discussion on twitter using #ACIraq.
