Not wishing to be rude but York is nothing like a theme park - there’s no plastic, prefabricated buildings, the obligatory face of Mickey or Minnie grinning inanely, hanging from a wall or post anywhere or some person dressed in a cartoon character costume, popping up in front of York Minster for that obligatory selfie photo…..it’s a very real, very old and undeniably majestic and historic city.

A 'free house' is a pub that's not bound to a specific brewery.

Calling York like theme park is like saying Venice is just like the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. 😊

All the buildings you see in this tour are original. There are many cities, towns and villages that have buildings that are hundreds of years old. There are many churches which are over a thousand years old.

It's not a theme park - that's just how the world looks outside America. Traditional architecture is a real thing in the real world. You find it everywhere because the rest of the world is not only 300 years old.

York is beautiful. Nothing fake or theme park there! One of my favourite English cities.

In my little English village, one side of the road is lined with houses from the 1500's.
All the old stuff is on the other side 😁

I'm sorry but this does not look like a theme park. It looks like a medieval town, because that's what it is. I've always said that American towns look like a theme park, because there isn't any history, they kind of build stuff to loosely resemble something, but nothing in particular, and because they're all built from wood and drywall, it all ends up looking like a temporary film set! 😂 My house (in the peak District national park) is 404 years old, c1620. Making it 156 years older than the USA.the church nearby was built in 1225. You should check out the peak District, it's breathtaking ❤

The question "Are these original?" says a lot about one's education and research. If a country existed before your's, of corse there's going to be architecture older than your's there. Saying it looks like a "Theme park" is borderline offensive.

I don't think York is like a theme park, but there are theme parks that are like York.

As a Dane, York had a special meaning..it feels like home, for us Vikings! 😉
The names are relatable and can be translated from old Norse (that most Scandis still understand)
York is a beautiful city...great walks!
The oldest part is The Shambles, not a large part of the city, but it's gorgeous!
hello from Denmark

What he is calling York Castle is always referred to as Clifford's Tower.

You're right, this is 'Old York' and they are original buildings, a lot of them are older than your country...

It looks how a theme park wished to look. This is real history, not pretend.

The comments about whether something was real or a theme park etc, were just staggering. Possibly the most unwittingly American attitude I've come across.

It's not like a theme park. In the UK history is everywhere, even ancient history.

strange thing you would say looks like a theme park.. We would say a theme park looks a lot like it... clue is in the title of theme.. these parks were built to resemble real places.. and believe me York is very real, gorgeous and so packed full of history.... A day spent there is never long enough to absorb even a small percentage of it's past

All is original in York. Some of the modern frontages may be covering old buildings because there are stringent building regulations in York. The Jorvik centre museum has a living drama built over the real remains of a viking village. You can see this through the glass floor. It is worth seeing.
