another bricklaying tutorial but building this brickwork pier did not go well, the bricks i keep reusing are full of mortar and damp, oh well i still tried to make a brickie video.

Ive been a Bricklayer over ten years, no chance with wet bricks and laying them on ply wont help, the vibrations will make it more wet. For anyone trying a brick pier try doing 3 - 4 coures then let it go off a little. Then plumb it up. helps me. Nice vid mate. keep it up.

Hi Stuart, try sprinkle a little dry cement on top off mortar bed. It helps soak up excess water. I use this trick when laying Accrington stocks on chimneys. Works a treat.

Wanna give you a bit of advice, when your using engineering bricks, in the winter or when the air is damp use a blow torch on the bricks before you start laying a thing, sort of thing for torch on felt, heat em right up and they will lay lovely, you see them steaming where the moisture is evaporating out the bricks, give em a few mins to cool down and away you go works every time,

like the early vids, you have come on a long way! if you are building a pier in the wet just sprinkle some cement on each coarse before laying on your mortar, you will be amazed at the difference.
oh & don't try to build on a trampoline either.

I’m having 2 brick pillars. 17 courses x 2.5 brick being built soon. A brickie told me to get quick drying concrete for the foundations as it will set in 5minutes.. surely that can’t be right??
