So, for the bucket, I'm not sure if it would be too small of a spicket, but at brewing shops they usually have bottling buckets which come with spickets.  It might be an option which would give a cleaner drain.  Granted your rigged version seemed to be pretty clean.

I put drain spouts in my hydroponic buckets. I use a step drill bit for the right size hole. my secret is I also bought piece of 3/4inch x 2 inches long threaded steel pipe. the taper of the step drill hole and the flange on the steel pipe makes it easy to screw in the pipe using vice-grips.   It's a cheap alternative of a tap and die for cutting the threads into the bucket wall. The threaded  PVC fittings will screw in nice and tight without a leak.thanks for the great, and complete, videos on building the top bar beehive

Hello - I've got a question. How are queen bees in horizontal hives kept in what in vertical hives (Langstroth style) are called brood boxes? In other words, how are they kept from depositing eggs in foundations that are otherwise reserved for honey harvesting? Thank you. I have been a subscriber to your channel for years now and have always enjoyed your shows.

Hi Jon, How about a simple centrifuge for separating the honey? Put the honeycomb in your paint strainer and place the strainer inside a container that spins on bearings inside your collection bucket.
Looking forward to your beehive as I would like to try keeping bees for myself.

What did you do to process the wax? Melt it into a mold or reuse it for frame foundations?

Jon, saw your other video where you mentioned that you lost you hive. I couldn't get onto that site to leave a message.  I agree with the others that moisture might be the cause of your bees dying.  One thing that I saw in your video, was that you had a blanket on top of the frames.  This would prevent moisture from being released and water to drip on to your bees.  Leave the blanket off and let the moisture go up to the "roof" to ventilate.

Thanks for the video Jon, that must have been fun to do with your son! I'm curious if there's potential for beeswax in the by-product after the straining?

Peter how do you clean that big pot after the wax?

Personally, after making honey (especially that much), the first thing I'd wanna do is make mead. Consider it for your next video. :-)
