I'm from around Philly, and I once had a Philly cheesesteak in England. The bread was sliced, the onions were raw, there was lettuce and tomato, and there was dressing poured atop the whole piece. It was a well-crafted sandwich with quality ingredients and presentation, which means it was a 0/10 cheesesteak.

I went on tour with my friend's band back in Spring 2011 and our van was making a weird noise by the time we got to Philly (coming from San Francisco). We took it into an auto shop and then walked nearby to a local spot to get my first authentic Philly cheesesteak...and it was glorious.

But that's not the point of this story. We get back to the auto shop and they had fixed whatever was wrong with our van and made sure we could make it back home at the end of the tour. Here's the crazy part, they then ABSOLUTELY INSISTED that we DIDN'T owe them A SINGLE DIME.

We were completely floored and blindsided by this incredible act of generosity and gave them some cd's and t-shirts out of our merch bin.

When I tell you that Philadelphia more than lived up to its name as THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE, I say that with all of the conviction and respect in the world.

You actually *can* get a cheesesteak in the UK- Passyunk Avenue in London. Dude who opened/owns it is from S. Jersey & his fam is from S.Philly. Friends from here who've been there say it's pretty good too! ☺️

Philly is my home city. I'm walking through 30th Street Train Station now. I have been around the world, including the UK a few times. But, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

I love watching these people! Their reactions are just so wholesome and they really do like the food. But anybody ever think about going over there and opening up a restaurant and and making some of these foods? You probably make a million dollars your first year! LOL
