Hi I’m so happy I found your channel. I live in the south Hillsbourogh County area of Fl. I started my sourdough journey a month ago. My first attempt at starting the starter with a different recipe did not work out. I happened upon your channel and began a fresh. I’m on day 7 and my starter is so active!!!! I’ve named it after my paternal grandmother Rebecca. I can’t wait to begin baking . Thank you so much for your inspiration on this journey I’ve begun.

That liquid on a day old/two day old starter is nice for thinning sourdough pancakes when necessary.

It happened to me when I was out of town. The starter was already runny so I couldn’t scrape it off, and kind of scared me, so I tossed everything. I’d made a new starter on vacation anyway.

I cook/bake my favorite dishes everyday & since it's just me I gift most of it away.
I just found your channel. You're so peacefilled & calm I really enjoyed this video.
I stirred my sourdough up with the hooch, divided it & fed it. I'm a beginner as well.

Love that this popped in my feed today. I've been sourdough baking for about 3 years and love it. I usually make my loaves for gifts as sadly any type of wheat spikes my blood sugar too much. I have a bag of einkorn I'm going to try one of these days. (Otherwise i stock up on Wheat Montana bread flour when we are out there) When you said you were in Montana my ears perked up. My daughter that lives out there in the Swan Valley has that same Coffee Anyone sign. 😊 We have land out near Helena we are developing so we can move. (2000 miles!) Lord willin' soon! I will subscribe because i want to know how the hooch experiments go. I have it all the time, but i just pour it off and refeed my starter. Safe travels! (I didn't see an email on your channel info... so sorry for the long comment!)

Hi Laura, you’re absolutely right it is boozee being a fermented substance. I love that you tasted it then went back for seconds 😂 I just pour it off feed it then back in business the only time I dump it is when it turns a little pinkish then you really do want to get rid of it which is why I keep the backup in the freezer, you just never know 🐌 looking forward to the results of your experiment!
I also saw your video on the sandwich loaf it looked delicious a perfect crumb for a sandwich bread…🍞

You are brave to be tasting the hooch! I have experienced moldy starter but was able to salvage it by scraping beneath the top layer of mold! Have a safe trip!
Oh and I didn't "make" anything for once over the weekend but just having a tea time with myself and the books! ❤

I just started doing sourdough starter. I missed feeding one day. I got the hooch. So hooch was a common name for homemade alcohol . So hooch probably a guy😆named it.
