What is the expression, "It's not rocket science?" Well, sometimes it is rocket science! Every fascinating and society benefiting plasma technology has an underpinning of basic science principles, and that science is described by mathematical equations. (Yes, you heard that correctly – math!) The truly impressive advances in plasma technologies that make our lives easier were all preceded by scientists and engineers figuring out the theory that describes how electrons and ions move around in plasmas – and that takes the form of mathematical equations that need to be solved. In this video, Professor Andrew Christlieb of Michigan State University describes his version of rocket science – developing the equations that describe plasma technologies and how you go about solving those equations. (This is why you want to take calculus!)
