In the midst of The Ellen Show being canceled several of her prior guests had spoken of being treated rudely and/or disrespectfully by Ellen. And many of Ellen's staff reported that the work environment was very toxic due to Ellen. She even made a video crying and apologizing for it. Whoopie and Ellen are birds of a feather.
