I'm still not quite brave enough to dye 100g of roving! In this video, I dye 50g of White Jacob Top. I solar dye it with 4 different acid dyes, Kelly green and sour apple from Dharma Trading and yellow and dark brown from DT Craft and Design. After leaving this roving in the hot sun for about 24 hours, I brought it back inside and let it sit on a low heat for about 20 minutes. The green still hadn't cleared, so I bottled the dye water, ready for another project. I have since learnt that Kelly green can be a very tricky dye to use.
Once the roving had dried, it was time to spin it! I spun some of the green roving and some undid roving, then plied them together. Now my question is:
Should I now dye the bobbin of green and white yarn? And if I should, what colour should I dye it? Leave a comment to let me know!
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
