Zootopia Movie Reaction and Commentary

today we're gonna be watching Zootopia for the first time!
another great Disney movie that I somehow missed out on. Nick Wilde & Judy (Dench) are very inspiring so grab some snacks and let's find out how one little bunny saved a whole city.

The thing about her being assigned to parking duty first, it actually makes sense: imagine what happens if a newbie gets thrown into the worst duties first without having the on-the-ground experience and the precinct doesn't really know what you can do. It's actually a way of keeping her safe and seeing just how determined she is to stay.

nick’s fox friend isn’t a regular fox, instead a fennec fox which are a lot smaller and have larger ears, explaining the difference in appearance

Emmett Otterton was screaming about night howlers because he's a florist, therefore knows what they actually are.

That's why he was targeted. He'd figured out what was going on, and was going to tell Mr. Big.

For those of you who are wondering, Mr. Big is a shrew, the only mammal with poison glands, which is probably how he became a crime boss.

“Isn’t that kind of discriminatory?” - Sophie, figuring out the whole point and message of the movie, like, 8 minutes

When you think about it logically, it makes sense that Flash would be speeding. With how slowly he takes his foot on and off the pedals, he would take forever to slow down. 😆

When I was little, I was confused why she got a sucky job, but now that I'm older, I realize that a newbie like herself shouldn't be out doing what other cops are. The leader cop had the right to mad at her. She went through training, but she has to gain experience on the real world before actually engaging in it.

For y’all who wondering how the predators got their protein, the producers came with the idea that insects get their meat from insects, but only a few scenes made it to the drawing board, but in some scenes you can see some bug related fast food joints, and even some discarded grasshopper burger boxes.
Also, the producers also came with the idea that predators wear shock collars that electrocute them any time they feel strong emotion, but was cut because it was too dark

Actually one of the creators said that Nick isn't a millionaire. He's been spending all his money on treatments for his sick mother, sweetly sad.

Young Nick is adorable. I felt so bad for him when the other Scouts turned on him.

Zootropolis is the name for some countries, some because of different languages synonyms for metropolis and some for legal issues (there’s a German trademark for Zootopia)

I love this movie for showing the prejudice is not exclusive to any group and can even exist in good people, but can be overcome if one accepts it and tries to be better

Fun fact: I was working at my town's small mom and pop theater when this movie came out. There were so many people who tried to take their toddlers to see this movie and of course they had to leave early because the kids would start crying from the jumpscares. So I actually would warn people that had small kids about that possibility. It's really not a movie for little kids. The main story plot would go over most of their heads and the scares and seriousness would just overall make it not enjoyable for them. So I recommended 5< years should be the ones that saw it. Then again we had people trying to take their toddlers into Unbroken X3

I'll just copy-paste what I wrote under another Zootopia reaction: I know exactly how Nick feels. For some of us immigrants, no matter how good, peaceful and trustworthy you try to be, society will keep using you as a scapegoat and keep blaming you for crimes of your "ancestors" aka "people you have no real connection to". It will be made clear to you that no matter what you do in life, society will try to screw you over at every turn on systemic level, it will never be easier. Being nice and polite just doesn't work against discrimination based on fearmongering against you. So you have to become assertive, blunt and be able to physically stand your ground. Make it clear that attacking you with fists or words will be met with equally effective counter attack. But you have to be very very careful to not become cruel, immoral and bitter in the process. That's the hard part. Learn from crimes "your people" committed but don't let anyone bully you to get the illusion of justice.
And no, this movie doesn't apply only to issue of racism but to any fear-based xenophobia. I'm white but race had nothing to do with what happened to ma and many others like me. Don't just think of America because these issues apply worldwide.

The Sloth DMV scene is probably the most genius and original jokes I’ve seen in a Disney film for a long time especially given that it is so accurate to how most DMVs are 🤣

33:33 That apology from her bully was beautiful. 34:20 and Judy's apology was just as beautiful. 35:01 Save the Mobster's daughter and get protected for LIFE. 37:27 There is a TV series I would watch. "The Cases of Judy and Nick, Zootopia Patrol."

36:44 when you went "eat dirt, it's called a hustle sweetheart" I just thought you sounded so proud and it was even more hilarious with no camera 🤣

This is one of the best 2010s Disney movies I’ve ever seen. Powerful message, stunning animation, great cast like Jason Bateman, JK Simmons, I could go on. Basically this movie is A tier

Fun fact: in the Swedish translation, the hippo mom’s wish to see Judy dead is sugar-coated with something much milder, but I don’t remember exactly what now.

It still blows my mind that a Disney movie made literal homages to The Godfather & Breaking Bad.
(Fun Fact: One of the those sheep is named 'Woolter' cause heh... Y'know!)😂

Mr. Big is a shrew and the film makers wanted the crime boss to be the most vicious animal on the planet. Shrews are carnivores that eat ten times their body weight a day, so they are very aggressive and have to be vicious in order to get that much meat.
