Fact is, the Spanos family never negotiated in good faith and expected San Diegans to stay fans and drive up for games which didn't really happen. San Diego also has a lot of transplants that were never going to vote to build a new stadium for a billionaire. Those of us native San Diegans that grew up fans were devestated by the move. We'd love to have the Chargers back, but DEFINITELY not under Spanos ownership.

The Spanos family gotta be one of the worst owners in the league, just sell the team and take them back to SD

Because the Spanos family is greedy. I was a San Diego fan and followed the whole saga from start to finish. It all comes down to greed.

If you are a multi billionaire living in one of the most popular sections of the country like San Diego and the city has supported you right from the start, why not build your own football stadium. The city has always supported the Chargers, you can rent it out to local sports teams and have concerts there, the Spanos family would be making a profit. San Diego has always been a very popular town with tourists.

Spanos always planned to leave San Diego. A stadium in Downtown knowing full well the debacle of Petco Park in San Diego and the struggles to get it built was always his exit strategy. He purposely chose having a stadium in the hardest location to build because he was planning to exit and wanted to spin the blame on the city. FU Spanos.

After the Chargers left my city- I stopped watching. We had a great culture here ( a lot of people from Mexico came to watch them as will).

They will always be the SAN DIEGO CHARGERS to me

Look what the Padres have done with their franchise. It’s the hottest ticket in town. And they’re currently slumping but still sell out! Imagine the Chargers in mission valley with a new stadium! Biggest mistake in franchise history

If the Spanos family had a brain, even just half of one, they should have asked for a stadium in 1995 just after their first Superbowl appearance. That was their golden ticket for a new stadium in Downtown and instead they pursued a Charger ticket guarantee asking the city to buy all unsold tickets. That let the Padres swoop in and get a stadium after their world series run in 1998 and at that point the writing was on the wall for the Chargers in San Diego.

If anything the Chargers should’ve moved to Vegas and the Raiders should’ve returned to LA. LA is just not a Chargers town.

For those saying San Diego didn’t want the Chargers at the time. SD never voted the Chargers out of the city. They voted not to pay for a new stadium that Dean Spanos could have paid himself; totally different thing. Spanos didn’t want to pay out of his own pocket so he decided to move the team to LA. Chargers left because of Dean not the city, which is why San Diego hates him.

LA welcomes you with open arms.. Thank you, Chargers organization for coming back to the best city.

What this video got wrong is, the locals would not have been on the hook for the stadium tax. It was on the ballot to hook out of towners on a hotel tax.

Worst part about this is, they blocked LA's most popular team from moving back.

Yep, I was a huge Chargers fan from Yuma. Yuma loved the Chargers... They moved to the real heart of their most hated rival: Raider Nation. Even though it was just within a couple hours away, to a fan it's like if the Eagles re-located to Dallas -absolutely disgusting. Honestly, I think the Rams are second fiddle there and the Chargers are third fiddle. A lot of people forget the dynamics of how it all went down and assume that the city of San Diego was being too cheap to keep them. As you point out, they had a legit solution at the Qualcomm site that was completely reasonable. I think the Spanos family was dead set on going to LA and wanted to try and keep as many San Diego fans as they could because "They tried" -Problem is no one bought their BS.

The Chargers routinely play in front of crowds where 30 to 50 percent of people are rooting for the other team. I lived in SoCal, 80 miles north of Qualcomm from 2006 to 2013. Even though at heart I'm still a Bengals fan, during those years I was proud of the Chargers because they had some great years. Now, they don't really have an identity,

San diego would accept an expansion team or another team that moves. But they no longer want anything to do with the spanos family.

Actually, the Chargers are in good company, having not won a Superbowl, they share that honor with Buffalo and Minnesota.
