Richard Petty basically started that back in the 60's. Kyle would tell stories of how almost every other driver would leave the track except his dad. As long as their was someone wanting his autograph he would stay. That devotion to the fans is the reason he's still the most respected person in NASCAR. He realized back then just how important they were to the sport.
