How To Make Your Idea HAPPEN

Is your idea good? What's the best way to make your idea come to life? How do you know if you have an interesting product concept? Should you make your idea or not?

In this video, Chris talks about how Google knows if they have a good idea?

The best approach to coming up with an idea is to prototype it so that it looks like what you want, but has no functionality then test it. Like a crowdfunding site and to see if people want your idea. This allows you to use the collective intelligence of the internet to make your idea better.

This is how Google tests their ideas according to one of their design directors (paraphrased): “Just build the top of the pyramid, design it and make it appear to be working and see if people can get excited about it. If yes, then go ahead and get the accountants and developers and engineers to make it.”

I can't remember where I heard this quote or when, but it's from Steve Jobs. He said "Start with the customer experience and work backwards." The part about the inverted pyramid made me think of that Steve Jobs quote.

I'm really glad you brought up Google and their design/product process. Would love to see an interview with you and the person from Google you spoke with.

That thumbnail render is too awesome.

I understand that an idea has several faculties that makes it functional if we take the time to test it to really make sure, otherwise without test we can miss some of the wealth of the idea and devalue it.

Thanks to Chris and all the futur team.

I agree, always think in the long run.

Thats why prototyping for games is such an important part. Did not know Google uses a similar approach for their products, thanks for sharing this insight.

Hi everyone from Chris to the whole Futur team, it would be awesome If you could get Jonathan Courtney or Jake Knapp on the show to talk about Design Sprint 2.0 and how it has impacted the industry in terms of the process and how big companies are making the big decisions. I think for the aspiring product designers in the community it could bring huge value!

Interesting timing with this video Do! Funnily enough, I'm currently in the process of making a prototype myself. I'm looking into a couple of ways to test the market before you even build either via running ads (a la Dropbox-style) or crowdfunding. I've also thought about chunking aspects of the products and testing each part on various cohorts.

I'm just curious, do you run your own sprints at Blind or the Futur? When I launch the business, I've thought about running brand identity sprints/workshops with clients as part of the diagnosis phase. Thing is, if I am just starting my business after only a few years of professional experience; will that be seen by the client as running before I can walk?

Today with code-free visual programming technologies like you can actually get real working prototypes out into the world in a matter of weeks already hooked up to payment platforms such as stripe. Nothing validates an idea like seeing if people actually signup and pay... The MVP ecosystem is a fast moving beast!

Oh I love this. In a way, it's scary to get out there with your idea. But I'll take this as a nudge from the universe to go forward.

Int this validated learning. Creating a minimum viable product and getting real customer information about your product and customer base. Love the Futur by the way. opened up my eyes eventhough im a digital marketer and not exactly a creative!!

At the beginning of my semester my professor came with a new term, it's called pretotype (yup, not prototype) at first we thought he was crazy and didn't know he was talking about, until he took the time to explain it.

In essence, pretotype is like an experiment you make to validate an idea (hence the term idea) without actually taking a lot of time or money to do it.

Pretotyping.org

It kinda changed the way of how I see new ideas and the level of interest of the audience to that idea

To everyone watching, you might want to check out the Sprint book by Jake Knapp and also Google "Google Design Sprint" for more resources on how to rapidly prototype a product.
