Approach pedestrian crossings carefully. Check both sides of the crossing for pedestrians. If a pedestrian is waiting, stop behind the white line and wait for them to cross before proceeding.

In your attempt at teaching this subject you were to quick to avoid a real issue in pedestrian crossing. If there is multiple lanes.. say there is a large vehicle in left lane. Driver approaching in center lane does not see pedestrian attempting to cross in crosswalk area. Center lane driver speeds up to make light or just to get through the intersection... hits pedestrian in cross walk. Pedestrians and drivers both need crossing safety.
