What type of wood is commonly used for windows sashes?

Hi! I’m getting ready to make three sashes with this Jr. bit set. May I ask what thickness your stock is in this video? I’m using 1 1/8” (barely) thick fir and trying to determine the exact layout of the mortises and tenons is proving difficult. This is my first attempt at this so I’m going to try it out on some scrap spruce but figured I’d ask about your material first to see if I can replicate what you’ve done. Thank you in advance.
