I'm a big fan of the short stick/yawara stick. Always have one on me. Regular practice with it is the key. Great video. 👍

...I would add that proper breathing also adds to power.

When I was a rookie Deputy Sheriff I went to a class in San Antonio, Texas to a class on kubitan fighting thought by L. A. PD. Sgt. Kubita I became an instructor and helped train my department. I still carry one and I am 75 years old and never leave home without it. Plus I carry an all steel Zebra pen or a Cross pen. I was the only Deputy in my department to ever stab a guy in the knock with a Gold and Black Cross pen and boy did I get in trouble for that. I was almost fired but like I told the bosses the guy out weighed me by 50 pound and was six inches taller so my choice was the pen or the gun so I took the lesser of two evils

I think i like the old school wooden version Matt . I can put it in my pocket anywhere I go and no one would even notice because it's innocent looking..

Thanks for the video.

One point about pushups is that not all of us will get to where we can do thousands of them. I'm one of those people who just never gets good at pushups. However, the me that does ten pushups a day is better than the me that does zero pushups a day. Yes, I'd be better if I did twenty pushups a day, but I may never reach that point. I'm learning to accept that if I never get beyond doing ten pushups a day, doing those ten is still worthwhile.

I have a kubaton on my keychain.. a cop I knew back in the 1970s show me that there's a nerve pressure point right under the jawline.. he took a magic marker and said watch I can bring you to your knees with this... He put the magic marker tip up under my jawline and I almost went to my knees with pain.. my jaw nerve hurt for like 5 days and he hardly used any pressure... I also have a Nebo inspector flashlight on my belt 2×AAA .. makes a great striking tool.. I also own a cold steel sharky self-defense magic marker

Great video thank I also like the big black permanent marker for this purpose of self defense. But I rapped mine in duct tape so if it brakes I do not hurt my hand or hurt my attacker more then I want as this is my less leathal tool and do not want to cut up a attacker thus using more force then legally aloud against a person who has no weapon. I also rapped extra duct tape in the middle so it would be thicker and easer to grip but leaving the ends pointy like the pen is. It makes a great portable duct tape dispenser and I use the tape all the time then add more once I get home. Multiple use item, pen, tape dispenser and self defense tool. I also have a metal storage tube that has screw on cap on both sides with a glass breaker on one side and a whistle on the other side. And I rapped it with duct tape to the thickness I like and a long lanyard so I can pull it out of my pocket fast. I can use it like a roll of quarter, sharp glass breaker point or small flat round whistle point for impacts as well as swinging it and slapping like a flail as the duct tape gives it some weight but not enough to be considered a illegal black jack weapon. Multi purpose as I keep a couple emergency fire starter tinder waxed cotton ball in the tube so I can use my Ferro Rod fire starter that I carry EDC in my SAK tooth pick slot. You can never be to prepared.

You give us senior citizens OPTIONS !!! I didn't realize a short tool like that would be effective, like you're demonstrating. KEWL !!! I imagine if I have to defend myself against a young punk, at least he/she/it will be eating HOSPITAL food for a while, even if I'm dead, they WON'T have completely gotten away with jumping an old man!

Luckily when he outflanked me and a few others while we were sunning in the field, Bill mercifully allowed us to surrender without blasting us into some form of bruised turd. I might have to look him up when I go back north, it's been 20 years. Thanks for the links and review. Hope all is well. Great to see you!

Well in the sparring part of my class I might be one of the biggest students I have the highest belt it's been my experience some of can beat mean in sparing they have a lower belt but they knew how to push you off the mat not size that matters it's knowing how to make certain moves effective is more important

I’m 70 years old, I’m not going to get into a fist fight or roll around grappling . I carry a small pistol in one pocket and Fox Labs spray in the other pocket of my shorts, so I can defend myself if ever necessary from a distance without being grabbed by an assailant.

The fight back could be the last chance to save your life if you can't hide or run.

I really like the pen. I also like the flash light (although I'm not sure how truly effective the bite would be) I like the weapon (sorry I forgot whet its called) which you hold in your hand and which gives you extra power. I especially like that it has two points on the sides to give you extra abilities although I prefer the steel one with two glass breakers than the wooden one.
I do have a question about one of your earlier videos. you said that the trust is the most important weapon when using a cane. which is exactly opposite to what others say. and I don't know what to believe. on one side if you were fighting knife to knife the usually the first main objective is to first cut the fingers so the other person drops the knife then move in for a kill. However cane is not a knife and it works differently. I think lots depend on your positioning. If you are at close range I would use a thrust because like you said if you go with a strike a person might stop you at your shoulder. on the other hand if you are at larger range and have a lots of room to maneuver i think if you are constantly moving and swinging in different directions it might actually be harder to grab the cane than if you go for a thrust. also I think ideally you should have steel spike ferrule if you are going to thrust. That will not only allow you to walk on the snow but also do extra damage when delivering a thrust. I think being able to maneuver both with your footwork and with your cane and would allow you to go from different angles when attacking the limbs and you can chose to go for the limbs or go for sudden thrust. does that make sense? or is what I'm saying wrong? Its difficult for me to decide on proper technique because I'm very new to using a cane. and it seems that I get somewhat contradicting information on youtube

Since these sticks are illegal where I live, I just carry a double tip pencil. A Cross metal pen or a double tip pencil are not illegal.

Good, I'm going down to the nearest rough neighborhood after midnight to try out some of these. But seriously, I like the kumite I think it's called keychain the most, because it's always in hand.
