The heat on the tip of the blade to straighten it ruined the temper and the quench would not have hardened it cause it wasn’t at critical temperature. Also the heat to do the quench would travel down the blade and ruin the rest so the whole thing would have to be requenched to get optimal hardness.

Meh not too bad, Did you sharpen the sawback? A sheath, with a sharpening stone a ferro rod will make it more useful for survival uses

I’m pretty sure that your chisel wasn’t designed for scraping rust off a knife. Now you have to re-sharpen your chisel. I would have used a wire brush.

Thanks for using a chisel for the initial clean-up. It drives me nuts when other restorers use a small flathead screwdriver... it takes them freakin' forever to remove the crust LOL.

You did not have to heat the tip to straighten it. By quenching and not tempering, the tip is left brittle.
