It has become impossible in Canada to rationally discuss immigration policies. As soon as one raises a potential question, one is immediately avalanched with accusations of r-izm and xenophobia.

As a child brought up in semi rural Berkshire we were given classes in 'multiculturalism', and how we should all embrace the people in our communities who had different cultures and faiths. The 30 white English kids in the class all turned around and looked at each other with some confusion. Jimmy was ginger. Did that mean he had a different value system to the rest of us?

I dated a lady in the early 2000's from Poland. She came to Canada at 5 years old. I went to Poland for a month with her and family. The country was struggling still after communism ended. Unemployment was unreal. A lot of her family wanted to come to Canada but said it was so hard. Priority from what I read and researched wasn't given to people that would assimilate the best, but people were most in need. Huge mistake. The war in Ukraine has proved it to me. Great people and most importantly, grateful to be here. Muslims want to be here but under their banner and will not like the West. The Pro Palestinian rallies have proved this. Isreal defend and attack you are doing nothing wrong.

Because we of the countries of the Global West have lived for generations in relative peace and prosperity we, in the large group, have become emotionally soft and cannot even imagine being "mean". I do think there is a very vocal minority that want mass immigration and I think Dr. Peterson was correct in that as we see a child or woman crying people cave. Our Politicians certainly, largely, seem to be spineless and out for whatever they can get for themselves and not looking after the best interests of the citizens. Many Politicians in Canada are also somewhere become hardcore Socialists and full blown Communists yet they portray themselves as Liberal or NDP. I think most Canadians who voted Liberal or NDP would not vote that way if the those Parties ran as admittedly Socialists or Communists who clearly want to dismantle our country and crush our freedoms.

There are two underlying questions to the whole immigration debate:
* Is a country allowed to decide how many immigrants to take, or must they take everyone who shows up?
* Is a country allowed to have & favor its own culture, or is it simply a warehouse where people play out whatever cultures they feel like?
A person's answers to these questions will predict most of their stances on any immigration question.
