- Simulated engine sounds.
- Paying a monthly fee for hardware that's already installed in the car that you bought.

Bumpers that simulate dual exhaust tips but the exhaust is actually tucked underneath.

Doug: if I want to open my frunk at 70mph, let me

Also Doug: gear selectors should all instantly go to park when you open a door, it’s so important for safety

Worst car features:
- Piano Black.
- Fake engine sound.
- No physical knobs/buttons.
- No gauges just screen.

The no headlights thing is my biggest annoyance. Years ago GM used to have a “Headlamps Suggested” message come up if it got dark and the switch wasn’t in auto. That should be mandatory on all cars.

Wait... No mention about lack of physical buttons or piano black? These are infuriating.

I’m glad Doug addressed the GM “courtesy light” feature; as a former supermarket employee pushing carts, I learned this after waiting countless times for cars to start reversing before I began to push a row of carts back inside, only to find that some were completely unoccupied; I started to double check that there were no customers nearby or in the car whenever I saw a GM with reverse lights on and in my path

Doug says he doesn’t like “lawyer-driven” safety items but then praises those exact innovations. Thanks Doug.

I don't hate the new automatic selectors, but as a mechanic who wants to move the car in neutral every day it's a nightmare, especially when there's electronic handbrakes also involved.

12:00 folks if It's dark out and somebody flicks their headlights at you, before you get into a road rage mindset check if your headlights are on. We're not trying to start fights, I just don't want to be held up coming home from work from another accident that could have been easily avoided. And it's not about if you can see the road, it's if people can see you.

The pre-lit dashboards / no headlight thing is my biggest pet peeve. You're right, all these features make it easy for people to not realize that their lights are on. I encounter this all the time and it's pretty dangerous when you're on rural roads in the pitch dark.

As a non-youtuber, I like the fact that my car honks (for less than half a second mind you) at me when I press the lock key, it let's me know that the doors are locked if I forgot without walking back to listen for the click to make sure it registered, and it echo locates me to my car if I forget where I parked.

ETA: I like my Focus's gear lever, the same way I like turning my car on with a key. The safety issue you mention of people leaving the selector out of park when leaving was solved over 10 years ago on my Focus, it dings at me if I open the door and it's not in park, it dings at me if I try to turn the car off and it's not in park, it dings at me if I open the door with the keys still in the ignition, it dings at me if I open the door and my lights are on instead of selected to auto, and it dings at me if I start the car without my seat belt buckled. It's a great way to remind you that what you're doing is either unsafe or will result in a flat battery when you come back.

The reason why electronic gear selectors now automatically shift into park when you open the driver's door is because there were many unfortunate cases of people getting killed or seriously injured because without the positive mechanical position of a traditional PRNDL lever, they thought they _had_ shifted into park when they got out, but they actually hadn't, and didn't realize it until it was too late. Sure, that can happen with a mechanical lever, too, but electronic ones made it *much* worse until they added the auto-park feature.

The headlight thing is a HUGE problem in Florida. I’ve almost hit into people because I didn’t see them because they didn’t have any lights on. No running lights, no headlights. Nothing.

Fussing about let me do it myself, I'll figure it out, and then fussing because they don't take the manual shift lever away and let me figure it out. 😂

So this guy is the reason car makers are in a race to design the worst gear selectors mankind has ever seen.

Worse than red-only blinker-brake lights are the bumper brake-blinker lights with separate marker lights up on the body where you’d expect the brake lights.

I hate Auto Stop/Start systems, but what I hate even more is that you have to disable it every time you start the car.

Surprised there wasn’t a mention of HVAC controls being moved to the screen when VW design chief literally mentioned that couple days back

Yeah I gotta disagree with the shift lever. I hate the transmission buttons. A dial I could deal with, but the buttons in a row, hate them. And I believe if you’re prone to not putting your car in park, maybe you shouldn’t be driving. But most modern cars will tell you to put the car in park if you open the door and it’s in neutral or drive.
