Have you seen those cute little oval catch-all trinket trays that are all over the place? While not terribly expensive, I feel like this is something we can totally make ourselves. All we need is a mold and some smooth cement...how hard can it be? Well...apparently making these trays is a little harder than I thought they would be in my head. In this DIY Wednesday video I will teach you exactly what not to do if you want to make these trays on your own. Or...now that I think about it...you can always save yourself a lot of trouble and purchase a tray from a small business on Etsy.

I think they look great & this is how we learn. Try Quikcrete countertop mix & a release agent made from caster carrier oil (1 part) & 70%-90% isopropyl alcohol (10-12 parts) in a spray bottle, just shake bottle to mix b4 applying to molds. Also, you can always paint after they dry before sealing! Just a couple of thoughts! Thanks for sharing.

My faves are the half and half ones - your gift recipients are gonna love these trays (otherwise they have no taste IMFO)

Would flat broken pieces of weighty tile &/or glass work?

For the terrazzo tray, if you sand paper it you will see your terrazzo!! It is just underneath 😅

LOL... well, after watching... The $8 tray from Etsy doesn't sound too bad!! I think the 1st ones with the paint probably needed to dry for several days... the cement dried but the paint was trapped inside and couldn't dry as fast !... So you think if you had sanded the one with the paint chips, they would have came through... Does that make sense?

Use oxide pigment and or titanium dioxide works well

The other people trays look good with paint because they used WHITE cement and not grey cement… so they were able to use less paint 😅
