In this episode, we look at impact tools available to the home mechanic and I talk about the advantages and disadvantages of each type. Impact tools are a great option for removing stubborn bolts or fasteners that are corroded or perhaps have thread locker installed.

A useful video Dino. I have hammer, air and 18 volt drivers. Your points detailing advantages/disadvantages is correct in my opinion. A good point you raised about the metallurgy and wall thickness of sockets. Thankyou.

Ah... my first impact wrench. A Ring spanner and the biggest hammer I could find. The frequency of the impacts was low but the the velocity was high....
The Milwaukee right angled impact wrench is my favourite for bikes. Low torque but its ability to be used a normal wrench means I don't overtighten. Great video Dino.

Always learn something from your videos Dino. I use my battery powered impact driver just about every time I am on the tools - it's just so versatile. Be interested to know why 12v over 18v?
