The last line " One for all and all for one " is absolutely correct in Switzerland.

Good on the Swiss. Swiss citizenship is not given out like candy. I can tell you have to love Switzerland. I wish we had more of this in Canada. You have people living in enclaves and they don’t even speak English or French (Québec) very well. Although Québec has been cracking the whip as they want people to speak the French language.

I love how transactional the Swiss are with citizenship. It's not a charity, they're all like "what's in it for me?"

It's a 20 year process for some people. It took me that long too

If you live in a place surrounded with mountains and you can’t name two of them than you get a problem . So as you can’t name two brand cheese . It’s just general knowledge from a country where you want get citizenship.

As someone who became a naturalized French, I can relate even though they seem to have similarities with their naturalization methods but not the exact same.

As a Swiss who was born and living abroad to a Swiss parent, I like to welcome all people to Switzerland from any background. To get in though, you need to have a basic understanding of Swiss culture, values and the history of the nation. This is so you can understand Switzerland and that we can have a common knowledge amongst each other. I certainly don't go down the path where I refuse anyone. If someone is serious about becoming a Swiss, they should have no problem obtaining it. I never really heard Swiss people saying they are proud to be Swiss but I'm going to say that I am proud to be Swiss and I want to return to my home in the future 🇨🇭.

We should apply the same rigor to citizenship applicants in the United States.

Japan is the hardest to get citizenship since getting a Japanese passport means giving up your original nationality.

While I appreciate the criteria to become Swiss, I do not appreciate the subjective nature of this all. Let there be strict criteria - for e.g., one should have filed and paid taxes for 20 years or one should have a B2 level proficiency in a certain language etc. All of these can be proved with evidence. Heck, even the questions on cheese are valid. But the person should be likable and sociable are not great criteria for naturalizing. These are very subjective. What I consider sociable may not be the same as what someone else may consider acceptably sociable. The way the judge said “Oh the Hungarians fled communism, so they are better candidates for naturalization because they accept our system” shows it all. No word on what she thought of the Jamaican who’s worked in international organizations in Geneva for years and years. Citizenship should be more like what it is in Canada, the United States or Australia. You meet a number of criteria and you’re accepted. Not because some lady judge thinks you’re Swiss enough or not.

I lived in Berlin, Germany for 10 years with my girlfriend and she was Cuban, American, but i had to leave because our doctor recommend she had to go to a nursing homes, so we left and flew back to Seattle, Wa. where she finally went because her brain had gotten worse dementia she had, but the Germans like me very much and in two years give me a passport, they require 12 years and i got real money and able to support my self.
