Things you might have missed in the hunger games & ballad of the songbirds and snakes.
How is violence etched into the design of the hunger games? How do clothes, buildings and colour enforce brutality and spark a revolution?
I look at some of the smaller details that stood out to me in each movie and theorise how the scenes help flesh out the dystopian world of Panem. From Panem flag's ancient rome influences, Snow's snowflake apartment, Effie's costumes to the smaller details.

The curtains were not blue.

It is so refreshing to see people analyse the hunger games as the criticism of neoliberalism and colonialism that they are. I’m tired of ‘race isn’t relevant to panam’ YOUR CHANNEL IS GREAT and so thorough and funny without being shallow??

11:47 this is very specific but the "its to make you sick so you csan keep on eating" was a practice aristocrats also did within roman times too. i love how the worldbuilding of these novels so clearly harks back to what we were taught as "civilised nations" or at least what is glorified within modern society (like in history class growing up we learned about ancient european civilisations such as ancient rome and greece but no so much other societies) and i think you mention this as well. something something challenges audience expectations through the juxtaposition . i love how the capitol makes itself out to be a bastion of civilisation against barbarians and glorifies the old times as a basis for their ideology, it is remincent of facist and nazi ideology whereing they based alot of the mythology on ancient heroics i cant remember off the top of my head i studied this like two years ago but it was a thing anyway i love hearing your analysis please make a 2 hour analysis video i would watch it

Very interesting analysis! With the fact that the hunger games movies were so awfully promoted (bringing attention more to the "love triangle" than, you know, the death games) and the subsequent brutal milking of the franchise ("make-up that makes you look like a capitol citizen! how fun!"), I forget that there was actually care put into them. i do like the nods to the visual language of the roman empire, as well as following fascist structures. Good video!

This analysis was so interesting! We forget sometimes the small details that are used to build the scenes. Such an underrated channel 💜

I wonder if the clothes also have connotations to the restricted expression that the district citizens have, the mute colours representing a restriction of their opinions as well as identity

I've just reread the books and watched the movies and felt annoyed at plot details and dialogues the movies missed from the books, so thank you for giving me smth to love about the movies HAHAHA

For some reason I thought capitol adopted covey (bright, eccentric) style after Lucy’s win, but instead of making fashion about individuality and freedom, they turned it into powerful aristocratic tool that distinguished them from districts

Something interesting about Effie's first outfit, the magenta Powersuit, she has white makeup with bleached eyebrows, to make her look like a ghost, a symbol of death to the distracts. Her eye makeup is also kinda like a clowns, to show how shes nkt tajen seriously but her desire to be taken seriously.

I feel like the prequel is more dependent on the movies than the movies are dependent on the prequel. That’s why the prequel has so many more references than the actual movies, because they existed before the prequel.
