I don't know why in the hell I watch this around midnight knowing that I can't stop watching till my legs get numb, sitting on the throne.

This is a very a special car to me. When I was 10 my dad bought a 1989 SHO from Yonge and Steeles Ford, we lived in Windsor, Ontario and he would take me for rides almost every night and every time I convinced him to race someone! There was a one time I was in the passenger seat on the EC Row Expressway and we raced a Corvette with my step mom and brother and sister sleeping in the back seat, and we were right beside him. Well that ended with them in a big argument. Ill never forget those good times.

The 2nd gen SHO was the best-looking SHO, IMO. It had subtle aggression, looked more refined than the 1G or 3G, and in silver looked sleek and purposeful. I've never driven one but would love to try out a well-kept example.

In 1996 My dad walked into Mullinax Ford in Park City Utah wanting to buy a just regular spec Taurus. He was needing a normal basic family car after his beloved Pontiac Fiero blew up😂🔥. He had no idea Ford changed the body style of the Taurus to that horrible oval style earlier in the year. It was hideous. He hated it and he started walking out and heading out to go to the Toyota dealer to buy a Camry when he noticed in front of the showroom outside They still had one brand new Taurus left of the previous body style. A 1995 Forest Green SHO with EVERY option. The dealer gave my dad a sweet deal because no one else was buying it (about the same cost as a basic 96 Taurus). My dad loved that car more than anything and babied it like no would even let off the accelerator at precise RPMs so the trans didn’t work too hard to shift —“letting the trans drop” as he called it 😂 and he NEVER took it above 70mph. He even washed it multiple times per week.

2 years later I got my license and got to drive it on rare occasions. I hit 140mph while bumping DMX and 2pac on the JBL stereo on an old back highway which was very rural at the time 🤦🏻‍♂️. This was before the town blew up after the 2002 olympics, and I was young and dumb. I remember thinking how my dad would kill me if he knew what I had done. It was one of the only secrets I hid from my Dad and still feel guilty about it till this day 😂. Later in life he became more and more successful in business and had some amazing cars... But this SHO was always his favorite and he still talks about it 25 years later. This car is special to me too because my Dad was willing to give up his fun sporty Fiero for a boring Taurus or Camry family vehicle— he was willing to sacrifice for the family. but actually he ended up not needing to sacrifice and got rewarded with both practicality and sporty in one with this SHO. But his unselfishness made a big impression on me.

Great Dad- Great Car.

Cheers to everyone else who appreciates this special car. 👍

SHO was faster than a 93 Mustang Gt auto.

0-60 in 7.6 seconds with an automatic FWD layout is pretty impressive for 1993. This happened before Acura came out with the first-generation RL, with similar size and slightly lower power output.

Always loved these, and even today that front end still looks the business.

When I graduated from HS, I had enough money to buy a good used 1994 5spd SHO in dark green. I planned on having it as a DD while I was going to auto/diesel tech school. Unfortunately, the logical side got to me, and I thought to check w/ my insurance company before plunking down the cash. Full coverage insurance on a SHO for a 18yr old male in Denver was something on the order of $1200 every 6 months! I was heartbroken. No way I could ever afford that! Ended up with a more sensible 1992 Plymouth Acclaim V6 - cheap on insurance, cheap on gas, and very reliable. That car was exactly what I needed for tech school. Probably a good thing I didn't end up with that SHO at the time. Many years later - I'm still longing for a mid-90s SHO with 5spd and in dark green or dark blue. Pretty hard to find one in unmolested shape.

I've always loved this generation of Taurus. It had a neat chime.

Owned a 89 SHO and a 93 SHO. The 89 was really quick for its day and handled decent. The shifter was just ok. The 93 wasn't near as fun or as sporty, but was a bit more comfortable. Both fell apart around that gorgeous Yamaha motor.
