A correction about the phone apps that do style transfer: Most (if not all) of those apps do the computation on the server side (if you do find one that runs offline, do tell), granted it is a couple seconds of hard work (as compared with minutes before) - but it's seconds on data-center class GPUs, not on the flimsy 4/8 core ARM processor in your phone.

Does this have any implications for animation? When I started the video I thought it was leading to video processing suitability, but it wasn't mentioned. Any ideas?

Can anyone explain how increased efficiencies of the algorithms are obtained? In the video he said that over two years we went from minutes of high intensity computation on powerful computers to near real-time with our phones. Is this all a matter of network architecture?
