On Thursday, University President Minouche Shafik authorized the New York Police Department to arrest student protesters camped on South Lawn.

The Columbia Spectator, founded in 1877, delivers news and information daily to thousands of readers around Columbia, Morningside Heights, and West Harlem. We are the second-oldest college daily paper in the country and have been financially independent from the University since 1962. AMP board member Saleh Sarsour,   was imprisoned for eight months in Israel for using his Milwaukee furniture store to transfer money to Adel Awadallah, the leader of Hamas’s “military wing.” The AMP is one of the main benefactors of the Students for Justice in Palestine organization which organize pro-palestine protest on dozens of American college campuses.
