I believe the difference here is the road bike guy is use to long rides on the road, which makes him good at distance and endurance while the mt bike guy is use to power up hills, causing him to have more power and acceleration.

Road bike can never lose! It is the bad rider. I am MTB rider myself but after having ridden both road and mountain bikes I know that road bikes are blazing fast on roads!

I own carrea mtb and simply for rough road like bump, potholes etc as road bike only need smooth road to avoid break wheel if cycle in rough road... mtb is simple to cycle and enjoy
