P-51 vs UFO

Incredible as it may seem in 1948 George F Gorman a 25 year old veteran from WW2 was flying in his P-51 Mustang on a clear evening when he encountered a UFO. Using his skills as a fighter pilot he engaged in a chase. This is a classic UFO sighting that is still unexplained to this day. The UFO was visually sighted by air traffic control and another pilot in a piper cub. Radioing the tower, Gorman said he was going in pursuit of the object. Despite the Mustang being at full power the object was always faster. Instead, he tried cutting the object off with turns to intercept it.

The aerial joust went on for 27 minutes. In a sworn statement Gorman said, “I am convinced that there was definite thought behind its manoeuvres”.

This reminds me of a story in the Soviet union during the 50s-60s, when a UFO was over a Russian base and MiG-15s were scrambled. Apparently they were dogfighting for ages until one of the pilots opened fire and hit the object but his plane started to malfunction for no known reason so he bailed out.

I heard of a similar thing happening in the UK just after the war. A teacher phoned an airfield to report a UFO nearby. The ATC didn't believe her but a squadron of vampires was landing and they told a pilot to check anyway. The pilot reported that he could see it. At this point, the legendary test pilot Eric Brown, who happend to be in the ATC tower at the time, raced into a waiting vampire and took off. He saw it and shadowed it until it climbed too high - he never got close to it because it was constantly climbing away from him. With little fuel left and no point continuing, he returned to the airfield. I believe he described the UFO in a similar way, too, and he was completely sure that it was not a weather balloon. The UFO was reported by multiple people and airfields all across the south of England that evening, but no pilot got close to it.

I read about this in the alien encounter museum, appropriately enough in Roswell, New Mexico. I went in a skeptic, but there are a lot of similar stories from around that time, which are still unexplained. It's easier to discount it when it's a lone drunkard stumbling home from a bar who sees something, but when there are multiple credible witnesses, it makes it a lot harder to ignore. I don't know what their intentions are, but I do believe that there is other life out there.

Also, not to be pedantic, but at 5:13 it's the wrong flag. It looks like the pattern for the 50 star flag, but in 1948 it would have been the 48 star flag. Unless of course, they were part of the alien conspiracy too. ;)

My dad is a retired LtCol- he used to fly F-15s for USAF back in the day. When I showed him this video and asked him what he would've done if he encountered such a thing back when he had his wings, he said- "The minute I get close enough for a lock on, I'm unloading all the Sparrows on my pylon and every last round my Vulcan can fire into that bastard and ask questions later.... Not because I'm scared or anything but because whatever it is has the audacity to disrespect me and Rebel (his jet's nickname) by trying to outmaneuver us. Further than that, I'd rather shoot down the bloody bastard so that there's physical evidence than become one of those looney pilots who keep on saying, 'I swear, I saw it with my own eyes.' "😂 But yeah, a lot of guys in the Air Force have had weird sightings like this apparently- many of them shut up about it in fear of being ridiculed and for the few of them who report and even give video evidence from their encounter in flight, they typically get frustrated when the brass who 'carry out investigations' make up some dumb excuse like "it was a weather balloon" when whatever it was CLEARLY wasn't anything short of an advanced craft.
