America has had good presidents, some decent Presidents, and unfortunately some terrible ones. For some reason, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is always placed near the top. Why? It's because the progressive left, who love the New Deal, are the ones we write the history books. Mike Slaters breaks the truth behind FDR's policies and how they may have really impacted the Great Depression.

ABOUT:
The First exists for the massive group of Americans whose voices have been ignored. The people who are passionate about American values, aren’t afraid to engage big ideas, and who care about where the country is headed. The people who are conservative in their views but aren’t beholden to any party’s talking points. The independent thinkers who rely on things like the facts, context, and perspective to inform their ideology. The people who, although they form the backbone of this country, have been cast aside by the politicians and the media.

The people whose beliefs and values are increasingly being cancelled. They are why we created The First. You are why we created The First.

I learned in high school that he initiated more government programs than anyone and caused the great depression to last way longer than it should have!!!
They don't teach that anymore!!!

not to mention that he imprisoned those of Japanese heritage and German's and Italian's (I believe) to a lesser extent...

The FBI was supposed to be temporary, too.

My grandmother would not carry a Roosevelt dime in her purse.

My father that grew up during the Depression did not like FDR.
In fact he like Hoover.
He said that Hoover was not a politician. I think that is why he liked him.
My father did not like JFK either, but that is another story.

I totally agree. It's often said that Hoover and FDR were opposites. But in fact FDR took bad policies from Hoover and doubled down on them. Specifically, raising taxes and regulations, thinking that government programs could fix the economy, etc. Remember that the depression started in the USA and spread throughout the world. But the rest of the world RECOVERED before we did. How can that be? Because most of the rest of the world didn't try to "fix" the economy using the government. They simply waited until the economy fixed itself. (War economies such as Germany didn't help anyone except the government).

FDR had major health problems, sleep issues, was probably clinically depressed, also a mistress - his wife's secretary. Quite a guy. He didn't care for Churchill and constantly went back on his commitment to help Britain in the darkest days of WW2.

The problem with having a limited government is that career corrupt politicians who are always reelected think that they have a better idea as to how America should function and they continue to add more programs by the government to protect the people. They are not protecting the people they are regulating them. There are only a few things that the people have to experience that let them know the difference between right and wrong. When the government gets involved they always react in a way that makes the government more powerful and not the people.

During his first 100 days as president, Roosevelt spearheaded unprecedented federal legislation and directed the federal government during most of the Great Depression, implementing the New Deal, building the New Deal coalition, and realigning American politics into the Fifth Party System. He created numerous programs to provide relief to the unemployed and farmers while seeking economic recovery with the National Recovery Administration and other programs. He also instituted major regulatory reforms related to finance, communications, and labor, and presided over the end of Prohibition. In 1936, Roosevelt won a landslide reelection. He was unable to expand the Supreme Court in 1937, the same year the conservative coalition was formed to block the implementation of further New Deal programs and reforms. Major surviving programs and legislation implemented under Roosevelt include the Securities and Exchange Commission, the National Labor Relations Act, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and Social Security. In 1940, he ran successfully for reelection, one entire term before the official implementation of term limits.

My great grandmother, God rest her soul, hated FDR with a passion.

FDR was a 'Great' president in the same way the Great Depression was 'Great'. He was the first western leader to recognize Stalin's dictatorship of the USSR. FDR ignored reports of forced famine in the 30s and the murder of millions by Stalin. Roosevelt's administration was riddled with communists, and he did everything he could to keep them. He enabled Mao to eventually seize control of China. He did not enter the war in 1939, as did Canada, to help allies Britain and France. Instead, he waited until his buddy Uncle Joe Stalin was invaded by Hitler. It is worth noting that Stalin and Hitler were allies at the start of the war having signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. They each began WWII by attacking Poland from both sides. FDR finally entered the war to help Stalin. The depression lasted longer in the U.S. than in other countries because of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the Great Progressive. He should be on the Wall of Shame.

FDR was the most insidious presidents. He's a very smart and hypocritical man. If he was put into George Washington's shoes, he would make America an empire not a republic.
He played a key role as important as Stalin to industrialize the rural Soviet Union to a top 5 industrial power. For example, FDR administration transferred Douglas DC-3's whole package, license and engine included, to Soviet's Lisunov factory. This vitalized Soviet's aviation industry because the bottleneck problem of aviation engine was solved (Soviet's own engine was too unreliable to be mass-produced). Many of FDR's subordinates were Soviet sympathizers and spies. FDR's contribution to the communism campaign is only second to Stalin, i.e., FDR is the 1st runner-up while Stalin is the champion. In regard to physical impact to the real world, Lenin, Marx, Engles contributed much less to communism than FDR.

FDR gets credit for the wrong thing and little recognition for the right thing. His virtual takeover of the economy extended the depression by years, we still live with the consequences of his mistakes, e.g. employer paid health insurance, while his lend lease saved Europe.

The great Four Star General George Patton was definitely no fan of FDR. He despised Democrats in general, and knew the USSR was going to be a major problem to the west post-WWII, especially due to all the "lend lease aid" FDR sent over there and the land they swallowed up that he didn't contest. Patton wanted to go all the way to Moscow and he made it into Czechoslovakia before being ordered back. He started talking at parties and gatherings about how the Allies "fought the wrong enemy", and conveniently was killed not long after in a frontal collision with a US truck that was more like a fender bender in which his own driver survived. Guess they couldn't have him go back home to the US telling the truth about things.

This is an unsubstantiated video with little to no evidence. I will grant that people put FDR too high and are unwilling to criticize him. I personally would put him high but defiantly not in the top 10.
A dissection of this video point by point:
>I concede that most historians polled lean left
>I concede Fdr is more well liked in left leaning circles. Similarly I believe in the fact that where you rank Reagan is down to your politics.
>I criticize this question about FDR's policies directly leading to the Great Depression not necessarily because I wholly disagree but more so because you do not provide specific points or evidence. EX: "Maybe Atlantis Exists and maybe that's the reason why Rome Fell." You may agree with that statement (I don't know why you would) but there is no evidence or specific points so it can be thrown out.
>This is a classic appeal to authority error. Rather then provide specific criticism of the New Deal you rather cite the Supreme Court "constantly knocking them down" (That statement is overblown anyway) and say that them saying it's unconstitutional automatically means that it is. This ignores the fact that these people are ultimately people. They may be smart and learned in Constitutional law so it can be conjectured to say they know more and can speak with more authority then the average laymen they do not act without imperfect judgement. That means that appealing to them without actual points cannot be an axiomatic point.
>I care not whether you find the actual things unconstitutional, that's personal judgement, no points or specific grievances is a thing I can criticize and will.
>Court padding is a very slimy move on FDR's part. This is an actual good point.
>What does it show about FDR as a person? It may be obvious but I'm not going to complete your argument for you, explain your points.
>Providing evidence for the fact court-padding is something FDR did and was criticized for is cool and awesome. Unironically good job. I wish that level of evidence had been incorporated elsewhere.
>Once more does not complete the argument however I acknowledge that at this point he has provided enough evidence to substantiate the point that FDR was a terrible person then before. I concede this point.
>What your teachers taught you is irrelevant
>Claim without evidence as has become common
>Saying that the Government being involved with the housing market simply isn't in the constitution is not an actual point. Many things aren't actually in the constitutions. You need to actually support your argument for why it is not CONSTITUTIONAL which is not the same thing.

Anyway have a great day!

He was a progressive/socialist and thought Stalin had a lot of good ideas and could be trusted. His political maneuvering with Britain and embargoes against Japan drew us into WWII.

Lincoln did start the civil war with his invasion of states, that had the right to leave according to the founders. FDR was described by the inventor of fascism (Mussolini) as a fellow fascist
