Former professional basketball player Spencer Haywood is a prostate cancer survivor. And key to being a survivor is to not wait and get checked if you’re at risk for cancer. It’s a decision that he calls a “slam dunk.”

Spencer was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013. His surgery was performed by robotic prostatectomy pioneer Dr. Mani Menon, who leads the Vattikuti Urology Institute at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
